On April 11th, 2026, the National Flower Production and Sales Situation Analysis Conference was held in Beijing. Several experts in the field of flowers have provided suggestions to clarify the industry's development ideas and identify the direction of industry development.
With the young consumer group becoming the main force of home gardening, the demand for flower consumption in China is shifting from a single product to "life scene solutions", and new scenarios such as balcony gardens, ecological offices, and commercial space green plants are constantly emerging. Consumers pursue emotional value and life aesthetics, and small yet beautiful, personalized, and healing products are becoming increasingly popular. In the future, we need to create new scenarios such as garden e-commerce and flower healing, and continuously extend the value chain of the flower and horticulture industry, "said Zhang Xiaoxi, Deputy Director of the Economic Growth Research Office at the Institute of Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Lin Qiaoling, Secretary General of the Retail Branch of the China Flower Association, suggested that flower retail should focus on daily consumption, optimize product structure, and introduce small-sized and cost-effective fresh cut flowers and green plants; Focusing on young customers and creating experiential consumption scenarios, such as offering floral courses and providing customized services; Layout online channels, build or join e-commerce and community group buying platforms, and connect with instant retail services.
In addition, the demand for ornamental seedlings in China's market is shifting from greening functions to diverse values such as ecology, landscape, and culture. We need to strengthen the coordinated development of the entire industry chain, promote the integration of 'nursery+processing', 'nursery+tourism', and 'nursery+education', and form an integrated industrial system of 'production processing sales tourism', "suggested Zhao Hongbo, Dean of the School of Landscape Architecture and Architecture at Zhejiang Agriculture and Forestry University.
In 2025, the total import and export volume of flowers in China will be 918 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 17%. Among them, the export value was 579 million US dollars and the import value was 339 million US dollars, an increase of 12% and 27% respectively year-on-year. Dong Yan, Deputy Secretary General of the China Flower Association, introduced that the structure of China's flower export market is becoming increasingly perfect. With the overall export volume increasing, the export target market not only continues to increase in quantity, but also achieves a profound change from relying on a few markets in the past to a global diversified layout. The export growth of fresh cut flowers is strong, and they have entered the European market on a large scale. Roses, chrysanthemums, carnations, and other important categories have become important drivers of export growth and have strong competitiveness.
The flower industry in our country is currently in a critical period of transformation and upgrading. We need to take technological innovation as the core driving force, industrial integration as an important path, and brand cultivation as the key lever to promote the continuous development of the flower industry. The relevant person in charge of the China Flower Association stated that innovation in the seed industry should always be placed at the core of industrial development, and the collection, protection, and innovative application of flower germplasm resources should be continuously strengthened; Actively applying new technologies such as artificial intelligence, vigorously developing the "artificial intelligence+flower industry", and promoting the transformation of flower production towards standardization, specialization, and intelligence; Accelerate the construction of a national regional flower market, continuously improve the pre cooling, packaging, and cold chain distribution system in production areas, and build a multi-level and diversified circulation network; Strengthen international exchanges and trade cooperation, further expand overseas development space, and promote the transformation from "quantity export" to "quality export" and "brand export".
